TITLE | Mirror Symmetry and Enumerative Geometry |

ABSTRACT | One of the central problems in enumerative geometry is to count the number of algebraic curves with a prescribed condition in a geometry. In the case of quintic 3-fold, physicists realized that computing the number of rational curves of degree d can be computed by certain residue integral and solving ODEs on another geometry a priori seems irrelevant. This phenomenon is generally called mirror symmetry. The talk will be an introduction to mirror symmetry and how it influences enumerative geometry. In particular, this leads to a combinatoric approach to many enumerative problems. |
